Deepest condolences to Catherine as well as to Brian's extended family. To use a Brian expression -"in the days and weeks to come" may your sorrow be replaced with pleasant memories of Brian and his life.
To me, BWM was a thesis supervisor, mentor, colleague, squash partner, and friend. I feel fortunate to have met and studied under Brian.
He trained and inspired a generation of mineral economics students and left an indelible mark on the exploration and mining business. He will be missed but his professional legacy will live on.

I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of my PhD supervisor—Professor Brian Mackenzie.
Brian provided invaluable guidance to my PhD studies at Queen’s University, helping me navigate the complexities of my research in mineral economics. I am deeply grateful for his unwavering support and belief in my abilities, even when I faced setbacks.
He was a true mentor and inspiration. His influence on my life and work is immeasurable, and I will always cherish the memories we shared. Right before my PhD comprehensive exam, for example, he told me that I was the best in the field of what I am doing, though most examiners were world guru in their respective fields.
I will always remember Brian’s gentle demeanor. His unique sense of humor always made our meetings enjoyable and engaging.
As a world pioneer in the field of mineral economics, Professor Mackenzie’s work has been instrumental in shaping our understanding of the subject. I enjoyed so much working with him for a few years as a teaching assistant for his best-selling seminar “Economic Guidelines for Mineral Exploration”. His passion for mineral economics was unparalleled and contagious. His contributions will continue to inspire generations of researchers to come.
My heart goes out to Brian’s family during this difficult time.

I was deeply sorry to hear about Brian's passing and would like to express my condolences to his family.
Brian was a dear and highly valued colleague for many years at the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering of Queen's University. His teachings of Mineral Economy not only greatly influenced all graduate students in the Mineral Exploration Program, but through his many national and international courses he also had a significant impact on the Mineral Industry throughout Canada and the Western World. Brian, we will always remember you!
