We knew Helen through my family in Moscow , Helen was a wonderful neighbour to Vera and Jim Holmes. Helen was also reunited with Vera's sister who she had nursed with in Uxbridge, Elsie Holmes - Clark. This picture was taken in 2017 at the yearly Christmas Bazaar in Moscow, where you could find homemade cookies, cakes, preserves and crafts. There was always a warmth when you walked into the room music playing ,a friendly smile, always laughter. Where neighbours gathered to share time with each over the delicious lunch prepared by these wonderful ladies. Everyone was always welcomed. Helen was apart of this wonderful group . <

Helen and I were colleagues at the Cottage Hospital, Uxbridge from 1980 - 1986 and from the first time that we met, became fast friends.
She had a desire to learn all facets of health care whether it be diabetic education, or foot care.
Helen was a wise, thoughtful, spiritual, compassionate, caring friend who also loved to laugh and have fun. A year after I left the Uxbridge area and moved north, I had my third child. I chose Helen to be my daughter Beth’s god-mother. She did not hesitate to say yes and another strong bond linked us together.
A year or two passed and Helen and Grant decided to move to Shuswap Lake, B.C. Distance kept us apart but we would reconnect with greetings on special occasions such as birthdays, and Christmas. After Helen moved back to Ontario, we visited each other occasionally but as we aged, our health and responsibilities made it more difficult to visit.
I am grateful for my memories until we are together again. Rest easy my friend. You hold a very special place in my heart. Heaven has gained another angel.

Helen and I met when she bought a house in Moscow, Ontario previously the home of dear friends who had passed on. We did not know one another well and I left the area shortly after, but it was clear to me and everyone else who met her that Helen's arrival in Moscow was a wonderful thing. Love is all that really matters and Helen loved life, the world around her and everyone she found there.
She is somebody I remember fondly and will never forget. My sincere condolences to her family.

We met Helen in 2007 when we moved to Moscow Ontario and we have stayed in touch with her over the years. Helen was part of the Ladies Craft Group and being new I was well accepted by the ladies who all became my dearest friends. Helen was always so kind and generous to everyone. I know she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our condolences go to the family.

What a great idea to have this tribute book for I know there would never be enough time to hear from all the people who cared for Helen Down at her Celebration of Life.
Helen and I were co-workers and friends from the time she started at the Cottage Hospital and ever after she left there and Ontario.
We had one of the best but sad farewell parties for her ... "Hoedown for Helen Down" (see pic)
There were many back and forth visits and long long calls. Best when when you were able to received one of her "hugs" They were so special...you could feel the love and care in every one.
The last time we were together was because Helen had told me that I was on her bucket list to visit. I was very honoured by this So I arranged a lunch and we got together. She told us that she was not well. (see pic)
My heart goes out to all her family of whom she was so proud and loved so much.
I will miss her dearly. Love you Helen

Helen's loving care of family, friends and her patients is the epitome of being a nurse. I feel so fortunate for our relationship and knowing her has been truly inspirational. She shared a nursing career with her Aunt Mary and also a love of quilting, a family tradition.

I always admired Helen. As a child I idolized my kind, beautiful, accomplished and popular older cousin. As an adult I appreciated her as a calm, serene and caring woman. In many ways she reminded me of our grandmother.

I took a palliative care course a few years ago and Helen and I chatted about the therapeutic touch portion of the course. She was helpful sweet and informative. She was also always so giving and kind. She will be missed .

Sincere sympathy to all the family. Ken & I went through high school together, often in the same class. Used to see Pat & Bob at dances in the Georgetown area. Good times. Your cousin, Betty, is a nursing classmate & we still keep contact after 56 years.
