Obituary of Jose da Silva

Please share a memory of Jose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jose Furtado da Silva, 78, passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on April 27, 2025, at Extendicare Arbor Heights in Kingston, Ontario. Jose was born in Ribeira Grande, Azores, Portugal on November 10, 1946. He was a devoted husband to Joan da Silva (née Ewart), and a loving father to Joe da Silva (Marsha), Mark da Silva (Allison), David da Silva (Amanda), the late Tamara Chatterton, and Heidi Marshall.

Jose was known for his positive attitude and service to others, in the many community groups in which he took part. Jose showed leadership and camaraderie through his participation in such groups as the One Parent Families Association, 39 Club, the Optimist Club, and Scouts Canada. He was a very social person, who enjoyed the lighter side of things, and was always making others laugh. Jose loved to dance and could always be found strutting his stuff on the dance floor. Family was very important to Jose, he especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jose is predeceased by his sisters Conceicao, Maria dos Anjos, Germana and Margarida, his daughter Tamara, and his granddaughter Tatum. He is sadly missed by his wife Joan; children, Joe, Mark, David, and Heidi; and grandchildren, Taylor, Sierra, Connor, Spencer, Emma, Natalie, Qrowin, Liam, Jaxon, Amanda, Nick. His legacy lives on in his many great-grandchildren. Jose also loved to spend time with, and will be greatly missed by many cousins, and nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Please share your memories and condolences to the family.
