Obituary of Duane Wemp

William Duane Wemp passed away peacefully at Helen Henderson Care Centre in Amherstview on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at the age of 76.

Loving father of Lisa (Rick) and Jamie. Proud gramps to Nicholas and papa to Lily. Duane was predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn, his brothers Leigh (late Doris) and Grant (Gail), and his sister Brenda Hatton (late Alan). Uncle of Herb, Valerie, Derek, Barent, Lance and Alan.

Duane lived an adventurous life. In his younger years, he served as a sergeant-at-arms for the second-largest motorcycle club in the world. He was also a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, teaching for several years at Kim’s Martial Arts in Toronto.

Eventually, Duane chose a quieter life to focus on his family and his faith. He worked in construction in Toronto, often recalling with a smile that he was “the only non-European on the crew” and fondly remembered the impressive lunches his coworkers’ wives packed.

Duane was a solid, dependable man with a big heart and an infectious smile. Always ready to lend a hand, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at Payne Funeral Home in Odessa on Tuesday, August 19^th from 10-11 am. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 am. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery, Amherst Island at 1 pm. Memorial donations in Duane’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please share your memories and condolences with the family.
