Obituary of Michael Barker

Michael "Pop-in Mike" passed away peacefully at Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, Napanee, on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the age of 79, with his children Jimmy and Sandra by his side.

Mike had a magnetic personality. Usually with a wee drink in hand, he was the life of the party—quick with a joke, a dance, or an old Irish tune that could make you laugh through tears.

He was an avid fisherman, golfer, reader, and lover of good company. Mike made people feel welcome, seen, and cared for—no matter where in the world he was. With roots all over, he built connections and friendships that spanned continents and decades.

He is survived by his children, Jimmy (Sylvie) and Sandra (Matthew), and his beloved partner, Rhonda Duffy. Mike was a proud grandpa to Pailin and Vann, and a loving pseudo-grandpa to Mikala, Kale, and Izzi. He is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ada Barker (née Ryan), and his sister, Olly (Sylvia).

He will be deeply missed by cousins, extended family, and the many friends across the globe who shared a drink, a laugh, or a dance with him over the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the L&A Hospital Foundation or the Lennox and Addington Libraries.

We will be gathering to raise a glass in Mike’s honour on Friday, October 17th at Legion 631 (Matt's Place), 4034 Bath Rd, Kingston from 6pm onwards. All are welcome.
