Obituary of Francis Savage

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A loving father and grandfather, Francis was a lifelong pillar of the Odessa community. He devoted his life to the people and place he cherished. Francis passed away peacefully at the John M. Parrott Centre on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 with loving family by his side.

Francis’s compassion for family, neighbours, and anyone in need defined who he was. He became a trusted friend to many throughout Odessa and the surrounding area. He proudly owned Savage’s Odessa Home Hardware until retirement, then passing it on to his son David, the third-generation owner. For 87 years, the business has supported local events, provided reliable service, and served as a community hub.

His commitment to community service began early. In 1954 at the age of 15, he joined the Ernestown Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. He later served on the Ernestown Secondary School Committee, the W.J. Henderson Arena Committee (1970s), and the Township Recreation Committee, contributing to the planning and development of what is now the W.J. Henderson Recreation Centre. Francis also represented the community for over a decade as a long-serving trustee with the Lennox & Addington School Board.

Francis was dedicated to his work and community service, yet consistently reserved Sundays for family, friends, and outdoor activities. Francis led a very active life during retirement. As an avid musician he found great joy playing in a local band. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing golf with friends.

Loving husband to Cathy for 65 years and Dad to Brian (Marilyn), Paul (Judy), David (Deborah) and Nancy (Rémi). Caring grandfather to Emily (Andrew), Brittany (Paul), Kailey (Jonathan), Nicholas (Nina), Megan (Elan), Benen and Jocelyn. Proud great grandfather to James. Fondly remembered by his sister Maureen Norris.

Francis will be reunited in laughter with Weir, Jean, Otho, Mary, and the many others who shared his journey.

Predeceased by his father Brendan Savage, mother Norah (née Bramah), and brother Kevin Savage.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Nursing team and Staff at the John M. Parrott Centre.

The family will receive friends at Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa on Tuesday, November 18th from 1-4 and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 1111 Taylor Kidd Blvd., Kingston on Wednesday, November 19th at 11 am. A reception will follow. Donations in his memory may be made to the John M. Parrott Centre in Napanee.

Please share your memories and condolences to the family.
