Obituary of George William Boswell

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George passed away peacefully in his 93rd year at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. George passed away much as he lived his life – on his own terms. He was a wonderful father, Papa/Poppa, and for those whose paths crossed with his, a wonderful friend.

He will be deeply missed by his children Rick (Paula) and Peggy (late Craig Stoyles).  He was a loving Papa/Poppa to his adored grandchildren, Samantha, Angeline (Rami  Ayesh), and Alexandra.

George was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Marion (Bailey) (2004) and best friend and companion Freda Nellis (2023). He was also predeceased by brother, Robert (late Gail) and sister Phyllis (late Robert Wilkie). He is fondly remembered by his brother Harold (late Yvonne), Nan (Rodger James) and Donna (late Edward St. John).  He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

George was born in Lyn, Ontario and grew up in Collins Bay and eventually settled in Napanee. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces proudly serving in the Korean War and participating in peace keeping missions in Germany, Cyprus and Egypt for 21 years. George retired from the Armed Forces in 1972 and went on to retire from SNC Lavalin (UTDC) as maintenance supervisor in 1998. George served as a proud 50+ year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #137. He was very active in the Korean War Veterans Association Unit 12 in Kingston. George proudly and humbly held the honourary role of Sargeant at Arms for 15 years and President for the last year. He annually placed the Korean Wreath at Kingston’s Remembrance Day wreath-laying ceremonies. During the 70 year anniversary, in 2020, he attended many events sponsored by the Government of South Korea in recognition of the Veterans participation in the struggle to preserve democracy in their country.

In 2011, George was selected to revisit Korea through the Revisit Korea Tours. He returned with photos and stories of his visit to the Camps/Air Bases, Panmunjom, the De-Milatarized Zone, Seoul National Cemetery, War Memorial of Korea, and Insadong, attending several special events of gratitude, and allowing them to witness how Korea enjoys peace and prosperity thanks to their noble sacrifices and dedication.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Doctors and Nursing staff at LACGH for their kindness, expertise and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. R. Britton for his exceptional care to George during his stay at the hospital.

George will be fondly remembered by his many friends and associates gathered through a life well lived. The family will receive friends at Paul G. Payne Funeral Home in Odessa on Thursday, January 29th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm., with a Legion Memorial Service at 4 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Friday, January 30th at 12 pm. The Service will also be live streamed on the Paul G. Payne Funeral Home facebook page.

In George’s memory, donations to the L&A Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Please share your memories and condolences to the family.
