Dear Josh,
It is difficult to write a small paragraph about someone larger than life. And you Josh were exactly that. The amount of smiles you put on everybody’s faces are countless, and no smile was as big as yours. I love whenever I stumble upon an old photo that I haven’t seen in a while or hear a new story of you that I haven’t heard before, and lord knows there are plenty of stories I have yet to hear that will undoubtedly make me laugh. I cherish the memories we have together. One of my earliest memories is of when I was four. You, me, Mitchell, and Claire were all playing in the yard at Grandmas. Mitchell and Claire were playing a game of tag, and you were picking me up and throwing me across the yard lol, it was fun until I got mad like the grumpy little kid I was and punched you in the face. I’m sure I pissed you off, but you didn’t let it bug you for long and we kept on playing. I am sorry for that punch by the way, but I wanted to win. I look back fondly at those memories, and I wish we got to make more when you were here, but I know that you’re up there smiling down on us, and someday I will see you again and we will make up for lost time.
I miss you Big cousin

My Birthday Buddy
Where do I start. We miss you like crazy! You were the best birthday gift I could have received. I’m glad to share it with you.
I miss those random visits from you crashing on the couch, teasing the kids to jumping in the pool on a hot day!
I’m reminded of you several times a week whether it’s a big dodge truck driving down the highway or seeing one with huge tires and big pipes. Also, when I see a group of young guys with your style, especially a mullet (or even a perm). I always look twice wishing to see you.
Those red Hondas catch my eye too! “Give heaven some Hell” randomly coming on the radio or I will play it to think of you. I could list a million things I adored about you! You loved your family like crazy and I know you are watching all of us from above.
I can only hope that you are guiding Claire up there or would that be the other way around?
I can just hear her saying “Oh Josh!”
Take care of each other ❤️

Any time I want a chuckle I think of the night I went to chaperone Josh and some of his friends at the cottage.
Josh had invited a group of friends to join him and some of the usual suspects. Matt, Tyson and Zack.
So, the night would go as you might imagine. Loud country music, drinking games and the rest of the normal shenanigans.
I had fallen asleep when something loud woke me up and I looked outside from the couch, and I thought the sun had come up.
But it then hit me that the window was facing west. There was a lot of loud laughing at this point. When I walked out onto the deck the campfire was now a bonfire with about ten foot high flames.
In the middle of the fire was someone’s spare tire. The tree above the fire lost a few leaves that night. But it was no worse for wear in the morning.
I will forever laugh when I remember that night and Josh laughing at the tire burning.
Miss you forever Josh.
Love,
Uncle Paul

Josh,
My right hand man, quite literally the one I called for everything. You always showed up, without hesitation and a smile on your face.
When I think back on my life there aren’t many memories that don’t have you in them. Some stories I can tell and some I probably shouldn’t. More than a few beers, tears and laughing until it hurt along the way.
There’s nothing I wouldn’t give for one more heart to heart, one more backroad, or one more ride with you.
Theres no one I trusted more with my life and my secrets.
There will never be a day when losing you feels real, I miss you and will never stop ❤️
Love always: Your big sister Kait

Few individuals possess the ability to make a significant impact from their initial
engagement. Josh was one of these remarkable people. He possessed the rare capacity to
connect with everyone, regardless of their background or status—be they affluent or
impoverished, rural or urban. From the moment of introduction, Josh consistently fostered
a sense of long-standing familiarity.
Irrespective of any difficulties one might be experiencing, his characteristic, genuine smile
offered immediate comfort. Josh exemplified the importance of embracing each day,
valuing life, and, most significantly, cherishing and supporting one another.
Josh instilled core values centered on celebrating life, family, and friendships. He taught us
to recall the past, appreciate the present, and anticipate the future.
This exceptional young man, whose character was shaped by the principles imparted by
his father, mother, brother, and friends, made a profound and enduring impression on
countless lives—a distinction in which Josh excelled.
He will be deeply missed; however, his infectious joy will remain a source of daily
inspiration.

Josh,
You weren’t just a brother, but you were a best friend who taught me that “if it ain’t broken, you didn’t try hard enough!”
Our hearts are heavy with your loss and we will forever cherish the memories we shared.
We will always remember the way you could make anybody smile even on their toughest days. Your kindness and genuine heart left a mark on everybody who had the pleasure of meeting you.
Your spirit will continue to inspire us to live life to the fullest and love deeply, just as you did.
Not a day goes by where we don’t think about you.
We love you “lil buddy”, until we meet again!

Josh wasn’t my brother by blood, but that never meant anything. He was my brother in every way that actually mattered. We met in 2007, and right away I knew—he was one of my people. They weren’t just friends; they were family I chose.
Josh was a free soul. If it had a motor, he loved it. Back roads, bonfires, cold beer, no real plan—that was his lane. He lived easy and didn’t overcomplicate things. Being around him always felt natural, like you were exactly where you were supposed to be.
One of my favorite memories is when Mitch, Josh, Gavin, and I did joint Christmas gifts for our moms. We sent them to a spa, and somehow Josh was the most excited about it. That still makes me smile. He had this quiet way of caring that caught you off guard.
My favorite picture of us is from 2007—a disposable camera selfie. The three of us packed into the back of a vehicle, driving old back roads, just kids with nowhere to be. It’s not perfect, but it’s us. And that’s what makes it perfect.
I got a tattoo for Josh, something permanent, because that’s what he is to me. Mitch and I go visit him, and we talk to him all the time. It’s our way of keeping him close, of letting him know he’s still part of everything. Those conversations never really stop.
Josh and Mitch are my favorite people. Losing Josh still doesn’t feel real, and maybe it never will. I’d do anything to have him back with us, but instead I carry him with me—in memories, in ink, in the quiet moments when something reminds me of him.
I will never forget the feeling of being told Josh had gone to heaven.... I feel like a piece of me is missing. I never fully understood the feeling of having a true guardian angel looking over you until now. I feel him in the strangest moments, I feel him present in big moments, and as much as I am so upset he is not here, there is no doubt in my mind that he is cheering all of us on.... and I cannot wait for that big old Josh hug when I get up there.
We miss you so much, buddy. Always will.

Josh — Who would think that I would be sitting at the kitchen table writing a tribute to you. I have been putting this off till now. I miss you so much, your daily visits, that smile, your advice and so on. Well here goes.
There are so many memories of you.
Wow ,what a proud little farmer you were. You purchased your first Hereford bull at
Pa’s sale at 3 years old with bid paddle #80 and made lots of purchases of cattle later.
You were getting ready for the years ahead at Homestead Herefords and then Cookview Farm.
With the loss of Pa I needed help to continue farming. You helped me with all the chores and managing the farm. We were a team spending many hours together. You would always take over as boss, doing an excellent job of buying cattle. You had a good eye. Calving, feeding, fencing, haying, ploughing and towing you name it and you did it with a smile never complained or walked away. We had a lot of fun.
One of Pa’s cows calved a black white face heifer calf he called Stella. She was the love of his life and he proved it with the care he gave her. She controlled the cattle at the barn.
She was a winner at 4H, lots of fairs and won her class at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto.
Would Grandpa Tom ever be proud of that.
We also bought a female and she had a good calf that I sold to Emburys , River Valley Polled Herefords. It later sold as a heifer at their annual sale for $8000.00 to a buyer in USA
and CookView Farm was included in her registration. Good eye Josh!
He would say Grandma if you need anything just call me and I did for advice or when in a predicament with calving etc. Mitchell was a great help too and always there. I couldn’t have managed alone. Mitch and I brought the cows in that were going to calve and kept a close watch on them while Josh was working.
Josh loved his Wilton old cheese. Coming in with a plan of action he would go to the fridge then say “What do you think GMA ,let’s go to the barn and bond.”
He enjoyed cooking and eating the things I made for him.
Over the years I did a lot of sewing for him and his friends. He loved everything I made from pyjama bottoms, pillow cases ,masks, the Hereford quilt so well worn and also patching and mending. What a lad!
I will keep WD 40 to those sprayed orange handled pliers which we lost several times in the grass doing fencing.
He was a great one taken way too soon. I miss you buddy but I know you are in a much better place and are with the others.
Let Claire be the boss okay!
Hugs and kisses till we meet again
Love Grandma Judy (GMA)

Josh was my best friend, my cousin, probably my coolest and most favourite cousin. We lived across the river pretty well from one another, using the asselstines cross way to always drive a fourwheeler over. Josh & I went to public school together until some big life changes happened for Josh, and I missed my friend very much, but it didn’t seem long til we were sneaking out into the highschool tree line by the football field to smoke some weed before school, hahah we did the stupidest stuff but we never got caught. It was always so much fun to have Josh as my cousin! Through highschool he always was a big flirt with all the girls but he did have a really good heart over it all! I remember him walking around asking anyone if they had a dollar and by the end of morning Josh ended up with enough money to buy him self a bubbas poutine, usually around $4.20 cents, which always was funny to us because 420 is the time people celebrate smoking marijuana. Josh and I bonded over road trips in the evenings to partys or just on our own, he ended up sneaking into havelock with me after highschool & before that we used to work together in 2017, which was the most fun I’ve had in a summer working, we would work for crucikshank at the time which is a construction company and he helped me out by getting the job, he was always there for me & had my back ! I could hear his truck from county road 1, and I knew oh shit, I better hurry Josh is on his way to pick me up for work! Some days I would pick him up, but it was always more fun trying to drink my coffee out of a mug in his lifted Cummins truck.
That summer was just me & Josh & Matt & some of the other guys Tyson & Zack. They would invite the girls they’re talking too & I would invite some of my friends & we would have a great little party by the river, that usually ended up a lot bigger & mama Jane had some good rules, but Josh did like to bend them.
We were the best of friends & Josh always found the most amazing lady’s to date. Which I am all still friends with & I thank him for every friend he’s ever introduced to me. Josh has seen me at my worst, been there for me at my worst and he as been there at my best & my favourite recent memory, is when we may of drank a little too much, and had a heart to heart, quite late in the evening… possibly morning but, either way, we talked about how when we grow older, we are going to have thanksgiving and Christmas and all the holidays with our family’s. We are going to make sure that we include each other in our lives for the rest of our lives, no matter what. His memory is deep within my heart. I love and miss him so very much. I wish we could just have more river floats & river evenings with Josh. And I wish I had that awesome piece of advice he always had for me. Josh was such a huge impact & great person in my life. Til we meet again cuz, love ya forever my dude !

Well Josh, it’s been 3 months yesterday and your first heavenly Christmas today. I’ve wanted to write something here for awhile and today seems appropriate.
You’re missed every day buddy. I know personally not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought of you and smiled (maybe a tear or too also). You’ve left a mark on this world and touched so so many. This my friend is proven by the countless tattoos now on so many in memory of such an Incredible human You lived a life in your short time here that many don’t in a long lifetime We could all learn a little from you.
Your Mom’s words to say good bye to you were absolutely beautiful as was your send off. I know you were there and I know you were so proud. Two phrases that ring so true for you are “to know him was to love him” and “you had a wild side but you had amazing grace”
It was an honour watching you grow into such a hard working, caring, loving and kind young man with an old soul. My memories of euchre and tv bingo around your table won’t be forgotten ever. Your warm hugs which I’m so glad you gave so many people so often will last a lifetime.
New memories and traditions will continue with your Mom, Terry, Mitchell, Grandma Judy and so many others because that’s what you would want and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus you’ll be here for all of it I’m sure.
I will keep my promise always ♥️ until we meet again my friend give Heaven some hell as I’m sure you’re already doing daily. Ps… I had my first Busch in honour of you last night … not bad. Merry heavenly Christmas

Dear Jane, Terry, Mitch, Judy, extended families and friends,
There are no words; such a tragic loss for all to endure. My most heartfelt sympathy to each of you. Josh always greeted you with a smile and made a point to talk to you.
The best things in life are not things, it’s the moments that matter. During Josh’s short life, he had many moments that he lived life to the fullest! What an impact he made on the young, old and in between folks during this time.
For Josh, he died doing what he loved best. I picture him in the heavens reuniting with so many loved ones doing his signature rev bombs. As we all know, Josh will make his mark in the next world as he starts the next chapter of his life.
Jane, the funeral you planned for your son was perfect in every way! Your heartfelt eulogy that you recorded by the river filled our hearts. The awesome personalized hoodies that you had made for the pall bearers and surprised them with were epic! The decals on his urn, the picture boards, Josh’s truck with his favourite attire… The lads doing burnouts on the road in his honour. Everyone did Josh proud! Josh’s funeral was a testament to who he truly was as a person. Forever in your hearts, never to be forgotten!
My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you.
Love,
Trina

I only got to meet Josh a couple of times. Such a caring and kind guy, life of the party! I would call him “Cooks” because I didn’t realize it was just “Cook”. He would just laugh.
Sending my prayers and condolences to the family, friends and Sonya! ♥️

Josh would often come visit me in the office at J.J.O'Neill just to share a joke or a story about something he had done on the weekend and I laughed with him and loved his visits before I'd remind him he still had to go back to class ..... he was always loved by everyone.
Jane, Mitchell and family, there are no words to say that can reach your sorrow but know that Josh and you all are in our prayers and our hearts.
