Obituary of Parker Scott

Please share a memory of Parker to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heartfelt reflection, we remember the vibrant spirit of Parker Scott, who left us on September 8, 2023, following a courageous nine-month battle with the rare pediatric brain tumour, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Born on August 30, 2015, to Preston Scott and Elizabeth McGregor, Parker’s light shone brilliantly throughout his short time with us. We were so proud to be his parents.

Blessed with an exceptional intellect, Parker's passion for space, numbers, and animals was unmistakable. During his time at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, he cherished a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum, where he held a fragment of the planet Mars and got to touch a piece of the moon. Canadian Astronauts, recognizing his zest for space, sent personal videos offering encouragement during his journey. Gaming was another of Parker's joys; he relished moments in Minecraft, Roblox, and Algorithms. He eagerly awaited new content from his favourite YouTuber, Glitch, who, touched by Parker’s story, dedicated a game video to him.

Parker’s dream was to one day be as inspiring as those he followed on YouTube. His affinity for animals was evident in his joyous moments at the barn with his beloved pony, Buzz, and the meticulous photographs of every creature during a memorable family visit to Disney Animal Kingdom. A memorable day at the Toronto Zoo in July 2023, graciously organized by the Make a Wish Foundation, saw him capture the beauty of even more animals. Parker's cherished pets, Chewy, Loafie, and Tug, feel his absence deeply.

In the face of adversity, Parker’s resilience was a testament to the strength of his spirit. It left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. The outpouring of love and support from friends, family, neighbours, Bayridge Public School, Limestone District School board, Kingston Police Force, and the Correctional Service of Canada will forever remain in our hearts. We are profoundly grateful for every gesture, large or small.

Parker was preceded in passing by his loving maternal grandparents, Gord and Pat McGregor, and uncle Daniel Scott. He leaves behind his loving parents, Preston and Biz, grandparents Kim Bates, Percy Lemmon, Wayne Scott, Diane Robinson and great grandparents Ernest Scott and Maxine Lemmon, along with a close-knit circle of family and friends including uncle and aunt, Jordan and Angela McGregor, and beloved cousins, Grayson and Ryker McGregor.

We were proud to be your parents, Parker. You will always be part of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Parker’s school, Bayridge Public School, located at 1066 Hudson Dr., Kingston, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12:30 pm. All who were touched by Parker's spirit are welcome. Interment will follow at the Cataraqui Cemetery, 927 Purdy’s Mill Rd., Kingston.

In memory of Parker, the family kindly suggests considering a donation to The Brain Tumour Research Centre (BTRC) affiliated with the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) or the University Health Network (UHN). Through continued research, we aspire to one day find a cure for DIPG.

Arrangements entrusted to Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0 (613-386-7373).
