I met Jason on Twitter and was impressed by his candour, sense of humour and generosity to others who had cancer. As a patient advocate, Jason was attending the I-CAM conference last April, and we met up for a pub meal and a great conversation about being a cancer patient and how to live life meaningfully. He lived life with joy and meaning, and he remains an inspiration. My sincerest condolences to Shannon and Pete, his nieces, and all his family and friends.

The bond of being a young adult sharing the same type of cancer is what brought Jason into my circle of orbit, and I am so glad to have had the chance to meet him in person even though it was only briefly at last year's Push for your Tush 5K walk in Ottawa. Throughout these past 2 years Jason has been an inspiration and a source of support for many people like me who are just trying to find our way on this tough journey in the best way possible. In my mind he will always be remembered as an open fierce advocate for Colorectal Cancer with a great sense of humour. My condolences go out to all those who were even closer too him.

Pete and Shannon,
We did not know Jason as well as we would have liked to. Geography, mostly being the cause. What we do know is that Jason had an uncommon and very powerful strength to persevere in the face of his life breaking illness.
He was intelligent and thoughtful, we have all lost a wonderful young man.
May you take comfort in having had him in your lives.

I worked with Jason back in 2015-2017 at AllRoads in Kingston - and he was consistently a warm, positive, intelligent and valued coworker. I enjoyed following his posts on LinkedIn and deeply admired his bravery and courage in sharing and advocating for the experiences of those diagnosed with cancer. I am so saddened to hear of his passing - a truly genuine, lovely soul gone way too soon. Sending my deepest condolences!

I am one of the many cancer patients who got to know Jason through Cancer Twitter. We often joke that cancer is a club that no-one wants to join, even though it has the best members. Jason was one of the best of us. He was always there to support people who were struggling with their diagnosis or treatment, regardless of cancer type or geography. I am an advanced endometrial cancer patient from London, England and I considered Jason a friend. He was someone I never met offline, but who was always there with supportive words when I was struggling with the side-effects of treatment, or with more general existential dread. It will be strange to go through my next round of scanxiety in May, without Jason there to say something reassuring. He was there for so many people, I hope he knew the difference he made to so many lives. I am grateful I had a chance to tell him before he died, because he was so open about how his treatments were, or were not working. Even knowing that the end was near, I still hoped for a miracle. I am beyond sad that Jason didn't get more time with his beloved Shannon, his family and his friends. He often shared how blessed he felt for the support he had around him. Know that he loved and appreciated you all. Sending love to you all from a windswept London.

I found Jason thru Twitter when by chance I noticed 'Cancer Canuck' on the platform. As I have lost some very dear family members to cancer, I found Jason's thoughts and insights very helpful in understanding a little more how my own family members must have felt at times, too. I also really admired his ability to rise above his own challenges and become a public and powerful advocate to create more awareness & help others. It sounds foolish, but it still came as a shock to learn he had died. As Shannon said, F*** Cancer! indeed. I will really miss CancerCanuck on Twitter, but I know Shannon, his dad, extended family and loved ones have lost so much more with his passing. I want to extend my sincere condolences to all.

I only 'knew' Jason through his Twitter account. It was with admiration I read his comments as his disease progressed. He will be dearly missed by all those who met him on this social platform and a voice of advocacy will be missed with his death. May he rest in peace. An additional note: Jason was born on the same November day as Canada's late Gordon Lightfoot. I'd like to think how Jason who also played guitar, was greeted, where spirits reside, with comfort by him. Perhaps a comforting thought. Thank you to Jason who gave much to others on their cancer journey too. Sincere condolences to all his family and friends. From @perfectrose2011 - Wendy.

In heartfelt sympathy & prayer to Shannon, Jason’s Father, relatives & friends & Twitter “X”friends & acquaintances. Words are never enough. Jason was such an inspiration. He was selfless, very approachable, courageous, knowledgeable, humble, humorous. He was an advocate for not only CRC, but cancer in general. He was so positive, realistic & forthright about his cancer journey. I met him through his posts on “X”. I would have liked to have met him personally but that didn’t happen. Perhaps our paths will cross in the afterlife. I sometimes would post jokes & cartoons for him to have a good chuckle. I hope he did. May you take comfort in your cherished memories and keep his memory alive in your hearts. Jason touched many people, more than we will ever know. Our lives have been enriched for having known him. Your loss is Heaven’s gain. I like to envision his Mother awaiting his arrival with outstretched arms, and he running towards her with a big smile & embracing eachother and feeling all the love they didn’t get to share. They will be kept together by God in their eternal home forever. Jason earned his wings & a peaceful rest. He will never be forgotten.

There is no better word to use to describe Jason than "hero."
Despite going through the end of life with his illness, he still found the energy to be a beacon of hope and information to others. I, like others, met Jason on Twitter. I had just finished my own battle with cancer but still joined the @ThanksCancer community and quickly loved the vibe from Jason. Always delightful and always smiling in every posted picture, he was such a light in the darkest of people's world.
His advocacy for those dealing with their cancers on top of dealing with his own is a testament to the strength and endurance that anyone would be super lucky to possess.
We never met in person. It disappoints me that we never will. But I'm happy to know there are so many lives he has touched.
My deepest condolences to his friends, family, and his dear wife, Shannon.

I met Jason--I think around 2008--while we both worked at McDonald's, but we reconnected over coffee during the summer of 2022.
Jason was an extraordinarily caring and insightful person. I enjoyed talking with him, and feel grateful that I got to learn from him and read his written work (from his blog).
Peter and Shannon: we've never met but, from just a 1-2 hour coffee reunion, Jason's love and respect for both of you stood out to me (he spoke to me about both of you with so much love, tendernous, and care). It's devastating that you--as well as all Jason's loved ones--must now grieve him, and I hope that you are able to find moments of lightness in good memories.
