Ray was a true gentleman, someone I was proud to call “friend”, and a mentor to all.
I met Ray in 1977, when I was hired to teach at Sir William Osler Vocational School in Scarborough. Ray’s specialty was teaching auto, he took me under his wing and mentored me through my first year of teaching. His patience seemed endless, and the students loved “Mr. Koenders.”
Ray often would fix my car, and I have pleasant memories of sailing in his sailboat on Lake Ontario.
When Ray retired and moved to Amherst Island, the invitation to visit was appreciated and many happy summers were spent on the island with him, Zelma, Val and her family.
Ray’s compassion, humble loving nature, big smile and big hugs will be missed by all. He was a true example of how we should live our lives. Ray’s life was a Blessing, and his memory will be treasured.
Rest in Peace, Ray….you will never be forgotten.
