Glenn Brooks

Obituary of Glenn Wright Brooks

Please share a memory of Glenn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenn Wright Brooks into the loving hands of his Lord and Saviour, at 95 years of age, on November 13th, 2024 at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. Glen was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and friend to many.

Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Edith; his son Graham (daughter-in-law Beverly), his daughter Heather, his treasured grandchildren John (Melanie) and Kathryn, and great grand-daughter Josephine. Predeceased by his parents Mabel (Brown) and Ashley Brooks and brothers Roy and Wesley Brooks.

Glenn grew up on a farm in Stirling and left for Vancouver as an early teenager. He came back to Stirling and met his bride to be, Edith (Scott). Belleville, Trenton, Kingston and Verona were homes to the Brooks’. The Brooks family resided the longest in Verona, which was a home they loved and where Glenn built a thriving business.

Glenn will be remembered affectionately by his many nieces, nephews and church friends. He had many employees as an IGA grocery owner and he would greet his many customers by name. He was well respected in his community. Glenn’s happiest times were spent at Papineau Lake, where he and his father built a small cottage in 1956. Over the past 68 years, the cottage brought him much joy.

Glenn was a man of honour, integrity, and a true gentleman. He had many passions and a great love for the outdoors. Golf, skiing and world travels were packed into his long life. Church and faith were extremely high priorities for Glenn and he devoted much time to his strong faith. He was also deeply involved in many church activities, including Youth for Christ.

The family would like to thank Dr. Johanna Murphy, Dr. Craig Goldie and all the Nurses on Connell 9 at KHSC, for their care and understanding.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bay Park Baptist Church (775 Progress Ave., Kingston) on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 1 pm. A reception will follow. Interment Verona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and for those desiring, memorial donations to Youth for Christ - Kingston would be appreciated by the family.
