I am proud to be one of Shirley's grandchildren. It's difficult to put into words the impact she had and will continue to have on my life. Every time I saw her, she was always smiling and gave the biggest squeeze hugs. She taught me to live with unreserved affection.
Growing up, I saw her volunteering at Selby nursing home. She would share stories of the people she met and the activities they did. She was always, what we affectionately called, Road-daying...always on the go and almost always serving her community.
Nanny inspired my love of cooking and I know she'll be with me in the kitchen and chuckle along with me as I sneak some "homelies"..the baked goods not good enough for company but still yummy enough to eat. I love you Nanny.. I'll put a plate of homelies out for you.

I will never forget when you took me shopping in Kingston or the way you smiled. I will always remember hearing you say oh golly and laughing that wonderful laugh. I am so greatful for having such a beautiful Nanny inside and out and always willing to help others. I will always miss you Nanny till we see each other again. You were a great mom, wife, grandmother and friend and taught us all well. May we always remember what you taught us

Words aren’t enough to adequately describe how much of a kind and compassionate person Shirley was. Consistently helping both her family and her community she undoubtedly touched many hearts. We’ve all been blessed with great memories that will last a lifetime. I’ve been so thankful to have such an amazing person I’ve had the pleasure of calling Nana.

Shirley is my grandmother, and we have always had a very special bond as she raised my sister and I for a number of years. This is a tough loss for all who knew her, as she has always been a bright light in the world, with the best most infectious laugh! I am glad that you have found peace, Nanny, and I hope you know how much you are loved and will be deeply missed.

My Mom wore many hats in life: wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. My mom and I rode out the storms of life together and became the best of friends.
