Obituary of Anastasia D. McGlade

Please share a memory of Anastasia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McGlade, Anastasia Dorothea (75 yr. member C.W.L.) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Anastasia McGlade, in her 102nd year. Anna died peacefully on Thursday October 24, 2013 at the Kingston General Hospital. Born of good Irish stock in Pittsburgh Township, Anastasia Shortall was one of four children born to Patrick Shortall & Bertha Flood. A strong spirit of independence led to her enrolment in the Brockville Business College and ultimately she and her brother Eddie managed the family fuel business in Gananoque. During those years, when time allowed, she enjoyed a good game of curling. In later years, following her retirement, she enjoyed her role as “chauffeur” taking her friends to social events about town and on trips along the back roads of Leeds County. During these excursions her knowledge of the Gananoque area and its history would shine. She enjoyed her story-telling almost as much as her love of the St. Lawrence River and fishing those famous spots. Her “fish stories” will survive many generations. Pre-deceased by her husband Hugh Kelly McGlade in 1973, she lived and worked all her life in Gananoque. Loving mother to Helen & her husband Larry LeDuc of Toronto; James & his wife Jeanne of Westport and Larry & his wife Gail of Deseronto. She was a proud “Gramma” to Brian LeDuc (Louise), Aaron LeDuc (Andrea) and Jason LeDuc; Jenny Lawrence (John) and Julie Free (Dave). Her eight great grandchildren include Anna & Evie LeDuc; Duston & Jack Lawrence; Katherine & James LeDuc and William & Andrew Free. Fondly remembered by Peter Flindall (Beth), Beth Flindall and Alison Eby (Ben), and their families. Pre-deceased by her sisters Mary McGlade (James); Margaret Dempster (Joseph) and her brother Edward Shortall (Anne). Remembered by her nieces Shelley Hunt and Michelle Shortall and nephews Edward Dempster and Paul Shortall. Pre-deceased by her nephews Patrick, Michael, Richard (Dick), and Tom Dempster. Friends will be received at the TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 63 Garden ST. Gananoque (613-382-3088), Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 28, 2013 at 11a.m. in St. John’s Catholic Church, Gananoque. Interment, St. John’s Church Cemetery. Gananoque. Mother’s request was to have any donations in her memory be made to St. John’s Church Restoration Fund. The family wish to express their appreciation to Friar David Collins, (K.G.H. Chaplain); KGH Emergency Dept. Medical Staff; nurses on Kidd 9 and to all the staff at Carveth Care Centre where Anna has resided since 2004. Arrangements in care of P. G. Payne Funeral Home, Odessa (613 386 7373).
