I got to know Annette during the many years she was an active participant at FitnessWorks for Women. She added so much to our community of strong women. We were happy for her when she was able to return closer to her home and family once she retired from political work and continue making such a positive impact at her new position and with her loved ones. We are so saddened by this news of her passing but we know that her legacy lives on in all of us who were fortunate enough to have enjoyed having her in our lives no matter how briefly, and our fond memories of her kindness will always remain.

I posted the following in the Whig Obituaries, and I am re-posting it here in case you haven't seen it.
"Heartfelt Condolences
Posted by Leonore Foster (Friend and Colleague) On Friday, February 23, 2018
It was a great shock this morning to learn of Annette’s death. I knew she was ill, but not how ill she was. I have known her over the years not only as a colleague, but as a friend. She was bright, knowledgeable, enterprising, and particular and ethical in her work. Her wicked sense of humour made her fun to be with. It pains me to think that the hug we had a month ago was to be the last. My deepest and sincerest condolences to all her family; she spoke of you often with love and with pride."
I just cannot get Annette out of my thoughts and I am thinking of you all today. We had a long acquaintance from the early 90's when she was a reporter with the Whig to just before Christmas when we worked on a City committee together. She is a great loss to us all.

Dear Shawna and Torri,
My deepest condolences go out to you and your family on the passing of your mother. I first met your mom when she worked for John Milloy as his Director of Communications and Press Secretary at the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities. I especially enjoyed our chats whenever we would run into each other during an afternoon break or leaving the Mowat Block after a long days work.
She was charming and engaging and was always interested in understanding how a government policy or initiative was being received out in the field. The bottom line is that she cared about people and how to improve their lives.
Talking to her after she assumed her role at St. Lawrence College, you could sense that she felt very much at home and that there was a feeling that she was back to her roots of serving the community.
She will be missed by many. May she rest in peace..

I had the privilege of working with Annette at Queen's Park where she served as my Director of Communications. From the moment we met, Annette and I hit it off – her great sense of humour, positive attitude and wisdom made her a wonderful member of our team. I will always remember the way her easy laugh permeated the halls of our office.
Annette was great at her job. She was well respect by journalists and public servants alike and was a great coach and mentor to me. She was always able to talk me out of one of my crazy ideas in the most diplomatic of fashions.
Although she loved working at Queen's Park, her priority was always her family and she was so proud of her daughters and later – her grandchildren. We all loved her many stories about her family's adventures and knew that they were the centre of her life.
She was taken from us far too you and I offer my deepest condolences to her family and all who loved her. She will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Anette's passing. My sincerest condolences to her children and her extended family.
I knew Annette both as hard working dedicated professional journalist when she worked at the Whig Standard and later in various Ministers' offices including Monte Winter at Queens Park.
Over the years our interactions were always professional and cheerful. Many a times at Queens Park we reminisced about Kingston and the latest happenings. Once again my thoughts and prayers go with you. John Gerretsen.
