Dane was almost as generous with his neighbours as he was with his kitties. Just kidding. He was so kind. My favourite part about coming home to 7 Fraser, was seeing Dane, having fed the flock of birds at the end of the street, watching from his window as his cats watched the birds in glee.
There is a painting of one of Dane's cats, in tribute to this daily moment, at the end of Fraser, on the water tower. Check it out some time. If you go under and inside you can bang on the walls and sing a song in his beloved memory.
I still have furniture that Dane gave me to spark these fond memories of one of the most epic Frasies! Love to all. Gigi

I, as in Brenda, met Dane some 30 + years ago??and connected with him immediately, Of all the people I have known in my lifetime, I have only known of one person who I can call a free spirit, it was Dane.
He was the type of individual who would take his shirt off his back to help you, not just say it, but do it.
I was told by my sister Joyce one time, he would be playing at the El’ Macomb
with his band! and would I like to attend? I certainly did, because at that point I had no idea he played an instrument, far less it turned out to be the Drums! The band was named, Dick Duff and the Dorks.
I think I had known Dane for a few years or more before I was even aware of this!
I can only say, he was amazing, he played the drums with the band and they all sounded fantastic, it was one of many memories of hanging out with Dane! that pops into my head from time to time!
Dane was the type to never said no to anyone! If it helped you, he would sacrifice himself in doing so.
That was and always the way I will remember Dane Morrison for the rest of my days.
This old saying holds a lot of meaning;
You don’t miss things and or people until they are gone and that is the very true case with Dane’s passing.
Miss you Dane! R.I.P.
Hope your ride now? is the 3 wheel Vespa scooter we had riots driving around town hooting and hollering at everybody a few times.
Thanks you Dane for making all the times we got together, some of the best and fun times I had over my years.
I will never forget you buddy!!!!!
My deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his family, his many, many friends and people he touched in his life.
R.I.P my friend. You are missed already!

I met Dane 40 + years ago at the hottest trendiest bar, Bemlemans on Bloor street and we were inseparable since that day. The adventures we had are too numerous to list. We attended hundreds of parties, concerts, nightclubs, bars and restaurants. We at the time lived an incredible exciting life always on the go with lots of friends and celebrities that would venture in and out of our daily lives.
Dane had such a carefree attitude towards life and loved everyone who entered into it. He never had to conform to society rules and found success in his many ventures that he was a part of such as a musician for many bands, running art galleries and his last venture a movie studio for the last 12 years. All of which made him completely happy. The majority of people who came in contact with Dane were all drawn to him because of his amazing personality, his zest for life and how he cared so much for everyone in his life and would never hesitate to lend a hand or help in any way
I can’t imagine the number of people who love him dearly and will miss him so much. He helped so many friends and colleagues along the way and developed so many long lasting relationships.
Dane was a trend setter who was completely mad about vintage cars, formula 1 and his eclectic collection of vehicles, art, music and cats.
I recall his turquoise 3 wheel Italian Vespa that he would pick me up in from work and the first time I recall being horrified. I would leave work in a suit, high heels and a full length white mink coat (Totally acceptable at the time as we didn’t know any better) and I hoped no one would see me. Dane laughed and told me we were the coolest people in the city driving around in this. He was right the attention from everyone was a little over the top, but Dane loved it. Everything he did was a conversation topic which drew attention from many.
The gallery. To this day I have 4 amazing pieces of art works in my home that I cherish I will never part with, all of which Dane chose to match my personality, style and taste, and I think of him every time I look at them. The numerous gatherings he hosted there were so much fun, unforgettable and have given me amazing lifelong memories
The movie studio. I never saw Dane happier than when he took people on tours of his huge movie studio and showed them the jail cells, court rooms and all the props which he was so proud of. He loved this environment so much he spent most of his waking hours there with walkie talkie in hand.
The music. Dane was a drummer for many bands but most notably Dick Duck and the Dorks who had such a cult following of their own playing venue such as the edge, Lee’s palace, the government and many more One of my fondest memories is when I got to be one of the back up vocalists at the government which was an amazing night. Not that I had any skill but at the time it was the thing to do and was a complete blast. Another memory impossible to forget.
I sit here thinking it would take me weeks to tell the amazing stories of my life with Dane but today the only important fact is that Dane has passed on and we all love him so much and will miss him dearly. We will never forget him or our daily interactions with him
I fell in love with Dane on that Friday night in bemlemans 40 + years ago and feel the exact same way today.
I want to offer my sincerest condolences to his 3 sisters Jill, Cindy and Andrea who reside in the US and all his friends Rest In Peace. Joyce.

I wanted to share this for anyone who was fortunate enough to cross paths with Dane. From when I can remember, Dane would visit my Aunt and Uncle in Toronto, and I always looked forward to when he would stop in. I have many fond memories of the tours he would give my sister and I at his film studio located by the old Dempster’s Factory in Toronto which he resided in for as long as I can remember. Whenever we would visit, Dane would allow us to play on the movie sets and ride his e-bikes, which I thought was the coolest thing in the world. Even at a young age, I understood that he was an exceptional person. I believed that he was a real live rockstar and even asked for his autograph on a couple of occasions when I was a young girl. I later learned that his talent led him to play with some notable bands which he received notoriety for.
Not only was Dane very artistic and musically talented; he also encapsulated a larger than life personality and will always be a rockstar in my eyes. My heart sank last week when I heard of his passing and was not sure how to celebrate his life until I read his obituary which reiterated his love for animals. I remember when I was a young girl, we would visit his studio in Toronto and he would have all of these kittens running around, some without tails, which I found notable and often shared stories about these peculiar kittens. I thought the studio, with all of these kittens running around, was the best place in the world, Then in adulthood, I came to realize that Dane was avid in rescuing cats, specifically feral cats in the neighbourhoods of Toronto and often brought these kittens/cats home to ensure they were taken care of and would provide food, water, shelter, and unconditional love.
The world became less bright with Dane‘s passing; however, the memories I have, will be cherished forever. Thank you for being you and such a creative and kind soul. I will miss hearing your infectious laugh and all the stories you had from filming with various celebrities at your studio. You will forever be a rockstar.
Rest in Paradise Dane, you will be greatly missed.

I met Dane through my older sister, Joyce, when I was a teenager. He was always like an older brother to me. When I bought my first car, a 1979 Triumph Spitfire convertible, I called Dane to tell him and he told me he hoped it came with its own mechanic. Dane always knew a lot about cars and he was the first person I'd call whenever I had car trouble and needed a tow truck. The minute it rained, the car would break down and Dane got the call from me for help.
Dane loved cars, dune buggies, bikes and had thousands of car magazines. He loved to tinker around with cars and was one of the first people I knew to get a Vespa. Dane looked so cool on his Vespa, smoking a joint and everybody stopped to stare. He was one of a kind!
He had such an amazing life. He was a great musician and played in many bands. We went to see him play with Dick Duck and the Dorks at venues all over the city. He was a wonderful artist who owned a few art galleries in Toronto and I still have pieces of art from his gallery in my home that I'll treasure forever.
We shared an interest in taking care of animals - especially cats. Dane always fed and looked after the feral cats on Fraser where he ran the film studio. He always talked about the people he got to meet through the studio and the celebrities that came by.
Dane lived life on his own terms. He was the same genuine, kind person no matter who you were. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was great at giving advice and he was like a brother to me.
We will miss you, Dane. Rest in Peace and thanks for all the amazing memories together.
Love, The Clelland and Simpson families.

RIP Dane, I have so many fond memories through the 40+ years I knew you. As a young woman, feeling cool watching Dick, Duck and the Dorks at Larry's Hideaway and other bars around TO. Feeling cultured at the funky art gallery you had. Visiting you in a
multitude of unusual and hip apartments in TO. Watching the air show from the roof at the warehouse on Fraser. And most recently watching you navigate your remote controlled boat in Nancy's pool.
Your creative spirit, your sense of adventure, your love of cars, bikes, chopped models and dune buggies are all the attributes that will keep you alive in my memory.
My sincere condolences.
You will be missed.
Love always.

I was a young man when I met Dane over 40 years ago he was like a cool magnet he was living on Earl St in downtown Toronto. We worked together at Le Chateau Shoes
Dane could always charm the ladies and usually make a sale
When ever Dick Duck and the Dorks played I would drag friends along and from the opening announcement
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THE WORLDS ONLY 17 PIECE ROCK AND ROLL BAND
people were on there feet clapping hooting
When he moved to Fraser het set up a race course and we do time trials in his golf cart to see who could be the fastest
Whenever I would pop in he’d have a new toy to show off
From cars to boats and toys Dane loved them all
RIP MY FRIEND YOU WILL BE MISSED

My dear friend Dane S. Morrison - Superstar!
I was recently watching the short video filmed July 3rd, 2016 of Dane behind the wheel of his beloved, burgundy dune buggy.
We were heading west on College St. on a gorgeous, warm, sunny afternoon and I’m just beaming in the backseat.
Jazz is playing on the radio and I’m looking at Dane in his fabulously funky shades and thinking to myself, “man, my friend is SO incredibly COOL!”.
I’ve always been so exceptionally proud of Dane and recounted to anyone who’d listen all about this amazing, one-of-kind, charming, kind, hilarious friend of mine.
There are people from Waterloo to Vancouver to Amsterdam to Glasgow to Cape Town that have enjoyed the “Dane stories” that I’ve shared.
They’ve all responded in kind with “I’d LOVE to meet this man Dane”!
Dane Morrison was a huge part of my life.
We met when I’d just turned 21 years old and had moved from the small city of Waterloo to Toronto, he was about to turn 41.
My first job in the city was for his company Ideal Maintenance where he was my boss!
I guess it’s fair to say that Dane watched me grow-up and was an integral part of my youth.
Dane, showed me through example how to live a life that is truly authentic and to say “to hell with what other people say, THIS is who I am”!
It is his crash-course of “Dane’s genuine Punk Rock guide to life” that I still live by to this day.
Dane also taught me so very much but how to just handle LIFE!
Over the decades I’d called him for advice about relationships, my parents, friends, work dilemmas and all manner of life’s dramas and I always, ALWAYS felt so much better after hearing Dane’s gravelly voice, his kind words and yes, even his infamous “old man” platitudes!
Dane, made me feel safe when I was scared and felt so alone and overwhelmed.
Dane always assured me that he had my back and even when we eventually lived in different cities, this never changed.
It is one of the greatest expressions of friendship anyone has ever shown me.
Dane was expert at being able to put things into perspective, regardless of the circumstance and that has always reassured me that no matter what, I’ll get through it.
And most importantly, Dane taught me to always take the high road, no matter the outcome, because our word, integrity and good character is really all we have in this life.
I treasure that invaluable lesson.
Dane was integral in shaping me into the parson I am today.
Dane was my family....he was the best, kookiest, grooviest, big brother a girl could‘ve ever asked for!
Dane was so passionate about living life.
He always said “love what you do and it will never feel like work” and to remember to “have as much fun as possible”...these weren’t just platitudes to him, he truly lived by this philosophy and encouraged me to do the same.
His passions were many.
Music and playing drums....I was lucky enough to see him perform at some well known Toronto venues such as Lee’s Palace and he was an AWESOME performer!
I was mesmerized when Dane regaled me with stories about seeing some of the biggest names in Rock n’ Roll before they were truly legends.
One particular story stands out:
As a teen, Dane saw Jimi Hendrix in a rather small school auditorium.
Hendrix had so many powerful PA’s (speakers) on stage that it caused a blackout!
Once the show was up and running, Dane told me “this concert changed everything I thought I knew about music, it changed my life”.
Art, art and more art!
For a time Dane owned an Art Gallery on King St. West where his motto was “everything and anything is art”!
Through this gallery, he allowed many struggling Toronto artists the ability to show their work.
Dane took me to many gallery openings and helped to foster my love (if not my talent) of art.
Dane absolutely lived and breathed vintage cars, Hot Rod culture, motorcycles, scooters, Dune Buggies and anything else with wheels...he was one of the first (and few) Segway stand-up scooter enthusiasts and rode a one wheeled, self-balancing Hoverboard thing around his movie studio!
I remember when he got his first truck, a 1979 Ford in ‘light jade’ (a fab turquoise)...hilariously it had a very loud musical air horn that played “Oh Susanna” which I begged him to let loose on every ride.
He revelled in freaking out pedestrians of the West end with that thing!
He bought a burgundy dune buggy and pimped it with fuzzy dice, skull tire valve stem caps, leopard print steering wheel and a huge dice gear shift knob and many other modifications.
This very cool car became just one of his signature rides and for me, it was the most fun!
He even ferried his great friend Nancy to her wedding (to groom Michael) in this funky buggy!
Dane is one of the few people in the whole wide world who could make me laugh...and I mean those deep, awesome laughs that exhaust you when you finally dry your eyes...God, I so miss that already...I miss him...every single brilliant fiber of him.
I came across this early 19th century quote from a Byron play and I reflects what Dane meant to me:
“A truer, nobler, trustier heart,
More loving or more loyal, never beat
Within a human breast.”
- Lord Byron c. 1821
Byron was as punkrock in his day as Dane was in ours.
I’m heartbroken at the loss of Dane who was an absolute gem of a human being.
As Always,
Christina Zweers xox
