Obituary of Delbert James Smith

Please share a memory of Delbert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Passed away peacefully, at the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital in Napanee on Thursday, September 23, 2021 following a brief illness. Delbert James Smith, formerly of Trenton, in his 87th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (nee Dawson) of 58 years. Dear and cherished brother of the late Ken (Gayle), Carl (Glenda), Betty Storring (Paul), Joan Storring (Eugene Kidd), Bill, the late Ralph (Glenda), the late Earl (Monica), Jack (Janice), Eric (Linda), Russell, and Bonnie Heasman (Charlie). Survived by his sisters-in-law Jennie Matthews, Georgina ‘Jean’ Paynter, Margaret Newsome, Annie ‘Bertie’ Thompson and Erma Dawson. Lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and their families. Also remembered by his dear friends Kim & Grant and their family.

Delbert and Helen resided on Harcourt Road in Trenton for over 50 years. Following Helen’s passing in April of 2020, Delbert remained at home until recently moving to Tamworth to be closer to family. A meticulous painter by trade, he thoroughly enjoyed his career at the Trenton Air Base for many years. His independence, determination and knowledge of current events, was always admired. The oldest of 12 children to the late Harriett and William Smith, Delbert was very proud of his family. You will be greatly missed Delbert but we find comfort in knowing that you and Helen are reunited again.

The family will receive friends at the Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main Street, Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0 (613-386-7373) on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2-4 pm.
