My gosh. I ran across the obituary just today. Dave was a great guy. A good bass player and bandmate. A dry sense of humour. Fun to be around. I met him through work and we ended up in a blues band together! My condolences to his family.

Captain Peterson was caring, understanding, guiding, and always willing to help. He made me a better person because of it, and taught me about sticking things through and showed me immense generosity. I’m so saddened and sorry about his loss. More than a CO, and more than a musician, he was a great man, and my words can’t describe how much he subtly, yet immensely, guided my life. The last I spoke with him he showed his generosity to me once more and offered to be my reference, and I wish I could have told him how much he affected me.

Carol and Lee-Ann, our heartfelt condolences go out to you. Dave had the perfect, deep voice of a radio announcer. No wonder he loved to DJ! Phil says he has many fond memories of playing golf with Dave at Rivendell and Inverary. I can still hear Dave's voice say to Phil, "Good day, Sir" every time we bumped into Dave around town. Dave had such a dry sense of humour and he was full of one line quips that were so funny. I still requote a couple of his quips to this day! I know this goes way back in time to the Wilmer Road days, but many fun evenings were spent playing Romoli! I remember Dave saying in 1994, "you like horses? You'll have to meet my wife..." and through Dave, I met Carol. Carol, our time riding gave Dave more time to play golf!! Keep your memories close to your heart. Dave left us much too soon. I am so sorry for your loss. Lisa

I have just heard about your loss, and am still at the stage of disbelief. I know we went for periods where we were out of touch, but with Dave it just was just seamlessly picked up where we left off. His kind words and support when I last saw him at the cancer center was a life line. Having cancer while in Covid isolation was making me stir crazy, but even though Dave was dealing with his own challenges he offered his usual cheerful encouragement telling me I had this covered, you will deal with this just like everything else you've faced and come out stronger on the other side.
Thank you Carol for all of your support and working your breaks to get together on chemo days when possible, you need only call if there is anything I can do. It couldn't possibly come close to what you both did for me.
God Bless, you are in our prayers.

Carol and LeeAnn. I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was a wonderful man. I got to work with him and every day he was sharp and professional. He had such a quick wit and was blessed with an encyclopaedic knowledge of every song ever recorded! I will miss you, Dave. Rest In Peace

Sending sincere condolences, both personally and from 224 Napanee’s Navy League Branch, to Carol and family on David’s passing.
I did not know David well, but my favourite memory of David is a fun cadet related one. 224 Napanee sea cadets were invited to join cadets from 33 St Lawrence (Kingston) and Harrogate, UK for a virtual Christmas dinner at the height of the Covid. David took the Canadian lead, wearing his Christmas hat, enthusiastically ensuring that a good time was had by all throughout the festivities.
Also as a parent of a former 58 air cadet, thank you, David, for your devoted service to the cadet program. You will be deeply missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of David. It takes a special person to serve his community as a Cadet Instructor and David was one of them. I extend my condolences to family and Cadet Instructor Cadre and all current and past Cadets. He will be missed by all. I hope that time and memories will help lessen the burden of your sorrow, and that you may draw some measure of comfort to know that others care and share in your loss.

Carol and Lee-Ann, I am at a loss for words. Although we were not always in each others pockets, David and I had a friendship that picked up the last time we talked or was in person. I will miss the debates and his method of getting his point across that made you feel that you were to believe he was right all this time.
My favorite moment that he and I had together was when we taught the combined band of 58 Air and 33 Sea how to play 'Sweet Caroline' on the Saturday - the day before 33 Sea's Annual Cadet Review. On the day the devil that both David and I had since we were cadets came out in the true fashion that he and I shared, we were able to get one of our Senior Officers and close friend to blush during the playing of a quickly learned music piece, LCDR Danna Dobson I am so glad she has(d) the ability to enjoy.
To David, I have taken over the watch for you so you can rest and teach the angels on high how to do it right...
To Carol and Lee-Ann, I will always be available should you need anything...
To the man upstairs, watch out you have a fire cracker in David, he will set everyone straight and then break out in song...
RIP my friend David, my CAF Brother,, all round swell guy..
Love Sean, Michele and Ryan Casey (Chesterville, ON)

My sincerest condolences to the family. You will be missed by not only your family and friends, but the cadets and staff you met, trained and commanded all these years. You were my first commanding officer when I joined 58 air cadets, and you’ve seen how far I’ve come since then.
