Obituary of Merrill Stanley Weekes

Please share a memory of Merrill to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On July 25, 2022 in his 99th year, Merrill peacefully passed away with family by his side. Predeceased by his wives Muriel (Tuck) and Audrey (Brown), and his brother Robert. Merrill was the son of the late Roy and Roberta (Ready) Weekes of Lombardy Ontario. He leaves behind his loving children, Randy Weekes (Christine) and Alan Weekes (Mary Ann), Cindy Hineman (Gary), Willie Mitchell (Roblyn), Diane High (Rick) and Douglas Mitchell (Patricia), his cherished grandchildren, Gabriel, Eva Mae, Adam, Kate, Miles (Rosalind), Krista (Clayton), Bobby (Emily), Darcy (Jody), Annette (Blaine), William (Breanne), Shane (Kristina), Jesse (Melissa), Riley (Alisha), Maddelyne (Roy), and great grandchildren, Nicole (Patrick), Owen, Raven, Leah, Nolan, Heidi, Lydia and Chloe. Also survived by brother William Weekes (Mary), sisters Shirley Hagan (Don), Jean Abramowich (Larry) and brother-in-law Ross Tuck (Mary). Merrill is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Merrill was a World War II veteran, and spent much of his life with either a wrench or a steering wheel in his hands. Driving was a passion for him, whether it was his 1911 Model T Ford or a motor coach headed for Newfoundland. He was one of the founders of the Upper Canada Region of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada and a long time member of The First Baptist Church in Kingston. Merrill was an avid collector and over the years established a fine stamp collection and a significant collection of antique clocks and cars.

Special thanks to all of the health care workers and staff at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, The Kingston General Hospital, Providence Care and Royale Place for supporting Merrill and giving him a good life in the last few years.

The family will receive friends at the Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main Street, Odessa, Ontario on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Payne Funeral Home on Friday, July 29 at 11 am., with a reception to follow at the Odessa Fairgrounds Antique Car Club Hall. Interment will take place at noon, Tuesday, August 2 at Maple Vale Cemetery, Smiths Falls, Ontario.

For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
