Obituary of Thelma Gauthier (Roy)

Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep regret and sorrow we announce the passing of Thelma Jean Gauthier (Roy). Thelma passed peacefully with family by her side, on Friday September 2nd, 2022. Born on April 25th 1927 in Buckingham Quebec, Thelma is predeceased by her parents Frank and Pearl Roy and siblings, Audrey Dowler, Elva Cousins, Morris Roy, Lee Roy and Josephine Roy.

Thelma is survived by her sisters Wilma Carter (John), and Connie Gardiner (Tom), sister-in-law Rena Roy, daughters Kelley Phillips (Dik), Jo-Ann McGraw (Paul Reinke), Cindy Darling (Ron), grandchildren Tori McGraw, John McGraw (Dana), Ryan McGraw, Kelley Sarris (Michael), Lyndsey Darling, Alexandra Darling (Andre), and great grandchildren, Nicholas McGraw, Mark McGraw, Maury McGraw, William McGraw, Lily McGraw, Parker Sarris, Paylin Sarris and Adaline Darling.

Thelma spent most her life along with predeceased ex-husband Gaston Gauthier in the Kingston and Bath areas wintering in Fort Myers Florida.

Thelma was a very talented seamstress and knitter who has hemmed pants and made clothes for many. She loved to make her own jams and do her own pickling and did so until just recently. As well she loved to entertain, was a fierce player of Canasta and the pillar of our family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.

Thelma lived her life large and in charge and though her mobility was limited in her final years she was able to live in her own home until needing to be admitted to hospital on August 22nd. A huge thank you to the many angels at Victorian Order of Nurses who assisted her with her wish to remain at home. Without your help she could most certainly have not been able to do so. The family is sincerely grateful.

Contributions to the Greater Kingston Victorian Order of Nurses or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada can be made in lieu of flowers. There will not be a formal funeral for Thelma, but a family remembrance will be held at a future date.

Arrangements entrusted to Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0 (613-386-7373).
