Josh was my best friend, my cousin, probably my coolest and most favourite cousin. We lived across the river pretty well from one another, using the asselstines cross way to always drive a fourwheeler over. Josh & I went to public school together until some big life changes happened for Josh, and I missed my friend very much, but it didn’t seem long til we were sneaking out into the highschool tree line by the football field to smoke some weed before school, hahah we did the stupidest stuff but we never got caught. It was always so much fun to have Josh as my cousin! Through highschool he always was a big flirt with all the girls but he did have a really good heart over it all! I remember him walking around asking anyone if they had a dollar and by the end of morning Josh ended up with enough money to buy him self a bubbas poutine, usually around $4.20 cents, which always was funny to us because 420 is the time people celebrate smoking marijuana. Josh and I bonded over road trips in the evenings to partys or just on our own, he ended up sneaking into havelock with me after highschool & before that we used to work together in 2017, which was the most fun I’ve had in a summer working, we would work for crucikshank at the time which is a construction company and he helped me out by getting the job, he was always there for me & had my back ! I could hear his truck from county road 1, and I knew oh shit, I better hurry Josh is on his way to pick me up for work! Some days I would pick him up, but it was always more fun trying to drink my coffee out of a mug in his lifted Cummins truck.
That summer was just me & Josh & Matt & some of the other guys Tyson & Zack. They would invite the girls they’re talking too & I would invite some of my friends & we would have a great little party by the river, that usually ended up a lot bigger & mama Jane had some good rules, but Josh did like to bend them.
We were the best of friends & Josh always found the most amazing lady’s to date. Which I am all still friends with & I thank him for every friend he’s ever introduced to me. Josh has seen me at my worst, been there for me at my worst and he as been there at my best & my favourite recent memory, is when we may of drank a little too much, and had a heart to heart, quite late in the evening… possibly morning but, either way, we talked about how when we grow older, we are going to have thanksgiving and Christmas and all the holidays with our family’s. We are going to make sure that we include each other in our lives for the rest of our lives, no matter what. His memory is deep within my heart. I love and miss him so very much. I wish we could just have more river floats & river evenings with Josh. And I wish I had that awesome piece of advice he always had for me. Josh was such a huge impact & great person in my life. Til we meet again cuz, love ya forever my dude !

Well Josh, it’s been 3 months yesterday and your first heavenly Christmas today. I’ve wanted to write something here for awhile and today seems appropriate.
You’re missed every day buddy. I know personally not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought of you and smiled (maybe a tear or too also). You’ve left a mark on this world and touched so so many. This my friend is proven by the countless tattoos now on so many in memory of such an Incredible human You lived a life in your short time here that many don’t in a long lifetime We could all learn a little from you.
Your Mom’s words to say good bye to you were absolutely beautiful as was your send off. I know you were there and I know you were so proud. Two phrases that ring so true for you are “to know him was to love him” and “you had a wild side but you had amazing grace”
It was an honour watching you grow into such a hard working, caring, loving and kind young man with an old soul. My memories of euchre and tv bingo around your table won’t be forgotten ever. Your warm hugs which I’m so glad you gave so many people so often will last a lifetime.
New memories and traditions will continue with your Mom, Terry, Mitchell, Grandma Judy and so many others because that’s what you would want and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus you’ll be here for all of it I’m sure.
I will keep my promise always ♥️ until we meet again my friend give Heaven some hell as I’m sure you’re already doing daily. Ps… I had my first Busch in honour of you last night … not bad. Merry heavenly Christmas

Dear Jane, Terry, Mitch, Judy, extended families and friends,
There are no words; such a tragic loss for all to endure. My most heartfelt sympathy to each of you. Josh always greeted you with a smile and made a point to talk to you.
The best things in life are not things, it’s the moments that matter. During Josh’s short life, he had many moments that he lived life to the fullest! What an impact he made on the young, old and in between folks during this time.
For Josh, he died doing what he loved best. I picture him in the heavens reuniting with so many loved ones doing his signature rev bombs. As we all know, Josh will make his mark in the next world as he starts the next chapter of his life.
Jane, the funeral you planned for your son was perfect in every way! Your heartfelt eulogy that you recorded by the river filled our hearts. The awesome personalized hoodies that you had made for the pall bearers and surprised them with were epic! The decals on his urn, the picture boards, Josh’s truck with his favourite attire… The lads doing burnouts on the road in his honour. Everyone did Josh proud! Josh’s funeral was a testament to who he truly was as a person. Forever in your hearts, never to be forgotten!

Josh would often come visit me in the office at J.J.O'Neill just to share a joke or a story about something he had done on the weekend and I laughed with him and loved his visits before I'd remind him he still had to go back to class ..... he was always loved by everyone.
