I met Glenn and his family through my husband Murray, about 35 years ago. When our son was just a few weeks old we came to Buckingham for Murray’s sister’s wedding. Glenn and Pat offered to babysit. After when we came to pick up our boy Glenn said” it’s ok I gave him his bottle!” (See photo). Yes our Glenn was a bit of a prankster at times! Our family expanded with a girl and over the years we enjoyed spending times with the Wiggins, often going out for Chinese food. I always got chance to talk to them both when we phoned back and forth. I was thrilled when I heard that Stephanie was taking Glenn on his dream trip to Ireland and loved seeing the daily posts. He was a lovely man and will be missed so much. So sorry for your loss Pat,Stephanie,Scott,Kieran,Brendan and the rest of your family. Hope all your good memories will eventually chase the sadness away… Murray,Chris,Jarod and Kaisha.

I have known Glenn for over 50 years. We met in my hometown of Buckingham, Quebec when we carpooled to Ottawa for our jobs. I was over at Glenn and Pat’s house a lot. We played cards, Jenga and shared many meals and good times. I even babysat their daughter, Stephanie, sometimes. I even played Santa for her one year!(see photo)I was honoured to be asked to be the MC at her wedding many years later. When Lotto Max and 649 came out, Glenn and I made an agreement to buy tickets and share any winnings.. in hopes of becoming millionaires! However, our biggest win was a meager $44 but being the honourable man he was , Glenn dutifully sent me a cheque for $22! Even though I moved to Alberta over 40 years ago, we kept in touch regularly by phone. Whenever I came “home” a visit with the Wiggins was always on the agenda. We send our love to Pat, Stephanie and her family at this sad time. You will be greatly missed Glenn.. rest in peace my friend.

My sincerest condolences to my dear friend Stephanie, her lovely mom, her husband Scott and her two boys on their loss. I met Glenn through his daughter Stephanie, who was clearly the apple of his eye. I was invited to thanksgiving (or was it Easter) dinner as I was living far from my immediate family and Stephanie and her mother and father wanted to make sure I had a proper holiday meal. I heard many gréât Stephanie stories that day and got to know this wonderful family. I also fondly remember Stephanie’s wedding day when her proud father walked her down the aisle. His love for his family was obvious, as was their love for him. My thoughts are with Glenn’s family during this difficult time.

I started my career with the Water Survey of Canada in Guelph in 1964 and Glenn was already working there, along with Frank Sullivan. The three of us became close friends, sharing many experiences. We each had different field areas for our hydrometric surveys - Glenn the Tillsonburg area, Frank the Bellville area and I had the Toronto rivers, but our free time we spent together - eating out, swimming in various lakes, touring Grand Bend, playing bridge and being on a bowling team together. Glenn even accompanied me to the home of my parents in Noranda Quebec one winter and I visited his home town of Wakefield.
In 1966 Frank was transferred to North Bay and Glenn and I were transferred to Sault Ste. Marie, at least temporarily. Glenn spent the summer building cabins on rivers in northern Ontario (with Jack Swan) while I temporarily managed Jack's field area. I shared Glenn's apartment in the Sault, along with his brother Percy. In the fall Glenn returned to the Sault. I was transferred to North Bay and the next year to Ottawa sub-office, and headquarters.
So, our paths separated after that. It was a brief period in our lives but we always felt the bond of friendship and we share great memories. I think of those times often.
This recent news of Glenn, his illness and death, is sudden and saddening for me, as it must be for his family and all his friends.
Goodbye Glenn, and I pray the you are safe with Jesus.

Glenn and I worked together for Environment Canada at the Ottawa office for close to 25 years. We often travelled together and got to know each other quite well as our field trips often required overnight stays and after work we would often share a beer or two.
Glenn always had an apple for his lunch and he always had to break it in half. Some apples were a challenge but Glenn never gave in and sometimes you would hear a few grunts but sooner or later you would hear the sound of the apple being defeated!
One year, the day before Christmas, one of our river recording instruments failed and we tried to repair it from the boat by cutting the ice around us, but our attempts to repair it failed. Glenn had a backup plan and asked to be taken back to the shore. He went into gauge house and came out wearing his swim suit which he had packed in his lunch box! Within minutes he was waist deep in the icy water, reaching to bottom and he said, “I think I fixed it”. Sure enough, all was working again!
Before coming to Ottawa, Glenn worked out of the Sault Ste. Marie office for a few years, working on the northern rivers that flowed into Hudson Bay and James Bay. From that time he established a real love for one of Hank Thompson’s songs, “Squaws along the Yukon”. On many social occasions Glenn frequently asked the band play this song.
There are many great anecdotes I could share about my great memories of Glenn. See you later “big guy”, at which time we will be able to reminisce again.
