I was Bob's teacher at Innerkip. On Feb 15, 1965 Bob took down the Canadian Red Ensign from the school flag pole and helped raise the new maple leaf flag. He demonstrated his enthusiasm for English when he helped organize and perform a skit from Shakespeare, Piramus and Thisbe.
I include this quote from my memoirs.
"1965 was memorable as the year Canada unfurled the maple leaf flag. This new flag was historic so a television set was brought into the school to watch the ceremonies and then we raised our own new flag in a special ceremony February 15th. The flag ceremony was carried out by students and staff. Connie Gillespie was the chair, all sang God Save the Queen. The royal proclamation was read. Suitable music played and Bob Hilderley lowered the Red Ensign and Bob Wilson raised the new maple leaf flag. Everyone sang Oh Canada. From then on, every morning, two students would go to the flag pole and hoist our flag.
I remember him fondly.
