Obituary of Terry Walter Poile

At home on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the age of 83. Terry was predeceased by his beloved wife Jo-Ann. He is survived by his daughter Melinda “Mindy” and son Craig, their mom Barbara, and his brother Robin.

 

Terry was born in Chatham, Ontario, and relocated to the Kingston area in the late 1960s. In addition to his contribution to the community’s business life through his life insurance agency, his sport and social connections included the Kingston Yacht Club and Frontenac Hunt. In summers, he was part of the community of Erieau, Ontario and its yacht club, where his family kept a cottage. He had a life-long love of sport: skiing, sailing, tennis, horseback riding, swimming, and a bit of golf. He loved travel, food, and drink.

 

His home and pursuits in the country gave him pleasure but also a measure of peace, and he was a devoted and tireless caregiver for Jo-Ann when her health declined.

 

Almost anyone who met Terry will have a story to tell. He was the life of the party and a master of creating immediate and lasting human connection.

 

As Terry requested, cremation has taken place and there will be no Memorial Service. Please raise a glass for him and say goodbye the way Terry always did: Cheers!
