Obituary of George Frederick Enslin

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

George Frederick Enslin

(November 1, 1933 to November 27, 2023)

Devoted Husband, Loving Father, Brother, Dear Friend.

Transitioned to Glory, Heaven Bound on Monday, November 27th, 2023, peacefully entering the arms of Jesus.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce, dear daughter Adriene (Steve Andress), and sister Charlotte Stengl.  He is lovingly remembered and missed by daughter Karen, son in law Roberto Villamediana, sister Rosemarie Enslin and family in Western Canada and the US. Also warmly remembered by many friends and the warm-hearted caregivers at Extendicare in Kingston.

George was an accomplished businessman and retailer. He held senior positions with Canada’s best-known retailers: Woodwards in New Westminster and Calgary; Zellers in Orillia, Sudbury, Preston, Niagara Falls, Lindsay and Kingston; and later as a Canadian Tire Dealer in Kingston. His favourite retail experience was owning the Emporium in Kingston, a tiny men’s shop known for its quality clothes and tuxedo rentals. He was actively involved in Kingston’s business community. In his spare time, George loved sailing and rowing.

George and his late wife Joyce, who was an accomplished artist and gardener, enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage. Once George retired, George and Joyce spent many winters at a Christian faith community in Florida and travelling.

In the last half of his life, George’s faith and family were most important to him and sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met.

He lit up any room with warmth and kindness and he will be greatly missed. He always had a smile and encouraging words for everyone he met and his passion was to make life better for others. At Extendicare he transformed the gardens and pond into a lovely oasis, donating both time and funds to make the outdoor space beautiful for everyone. He maintained the pond with fresh water every week to make sure the 100 plus fish he had placed there survived.  He was able to do this up until he got ill at the end of October.

For those who wish, donations in George’s name may be made to Extendicare Kingston Programs Department (309 Queen Mary Rd., Kingston) for its community garden, or to his beloved Bay Park Baptist Church (775 Progress Ave., Kingston).

Memorial and life celebration planned for the Spring of 2024 at Wilton Cemetery, Wilton, Ontario. For information about the spring celebration, contact Payne Funeral Home. Cards of solace may also be sent to the family c/o Payne Funeral Home, Box 324 Odessa, ON K0H 2H0.
