I was really hoping to see Phyllis back in Nova Scotia. I thought that there would be some way to get her down to Baddeck to take in some of the Celtic Colours Festival and show her around the Bell Bay Golf Course. When I brought it up she did not think her health would permit her to get home again. I guess she knew better than I.
I always had fun with my Aunt Phyllis and Uncle George and I will remember them both fondly. It was always a special time when they would come home from Ontario to visit. There was always lots of cards, story telling, good food, and the odd beer was drank. And lots of laughs - a few at my expense if I recall correctly. I think Aunt Phyllis was always amazed at how much I could eat (ha, ha).
We kept in touch off and on over the past few years. I wish I had taken the time to stop in and see her more often when I was passing through Ottawa while working in the Arctic. The last time I did stop in to see her in Odessa, when I arrived all I could hear coming through the apartment door was the sound of a Blue Jay ball game - the sound was turned up very loud. We went out for supper at Red Lobster in Kingston with some of the grand kids - whom she was very proud of and obviously loved very much - and then we stopped to visit with Jan and Brian. It was a great visit - short - but a great visit. It was like catching up with an old friend - you just start up right where you left off when you last saw each other. Phyllis had not changed much - she was shorter than the last time I had seen her and a bit hard of hearing - but otherwise just has I had remembered her.
I will remember my Aunt Phyllis fondly. She will be missed by all who had the privilege to meet her. Rest in peace Aunt Phyllis.
