Janet and family: Please accept my condolences. I have fond memories of working with Don over many years, the last few at the Parole Board. What I remember most is that he was fair, and if he said he would do something he could be counted on to do it. He gave me some very practical advice on several occasions, often with a dry sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. He never said "you're doing this wrong", instead he pointed out a different option. Don was a good man.

Sandra and I want to express our condolences and best wishes to you and your extended family over the loss of Don - who I admired over the years that we served together in CSC. I considered him wise, strong-willed and caring, and thought of him as a mentor whom I could turn to for advice as I tried to navigate the winding road of Canadian Corrections. Don and Art Trono made an excellent leadership team, and both made major individual contributions to moving a reluctant system in a more empathetic direction based on the conviction that, with proper support and resources, many inmates could improve their lives. He was missed as a colleague, friend and public servant after he retired. I know that his family and his current crop of friends will miss him deeply.

Dear Janet, my thoughts and prayers are with you, John David and Zane. I am so sorry for your loss. Don was an icon at CSC and will always be remembered in the stories and prison lore. He became one of my favourite people and I cannot reflect on my years in CSC without Don being part of the memories. Also burned in my memory is the wonderful hayride birthday party you had for John David (back in the days of Frontenac Club Daycare), when this "CSC icon" towed a hay wagon full of toddlers (and some moms) around your farm. He will never be forgotten.
