Obituary of Brian Shenton
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Shenton of Camden East on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Brian was the loving husband and best teammate to Margaret Shenton (née Verkleij). Devoted father of Edward Shenton, Jacintha Shenton and her husband Bruce Santos and honorary Appa/Dad to Sharmila and Charles Conteh. Proud Grandpa to Arianna Shenton and Hayden Shenton and adored Grandpa of Lily-Rose Santos. Honorary Opa to Hannah Conteh and Jesse Conteh. Brian is mourned by his sister Carole Morcel and her husband John, nephew Neil Morcel and niece Claire Morcel, all in Australia. Brian will be badly missed by Margaret's brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands.
Brian was born in Forfar, Scotland, but grew up in Jersey in the Channel Islands before moving to England for Horticultural College. He met Margaret during a work placement in the Netherlands; Margaret was Brian’s Dutch flower. Brian had a dream to immigrate to Canada and that dream came true in 1984 when he brought his young family to Ontario. His excitement to be in Canada was instilled in his children and the opportunities in Canada helped them grow. The family eventually settled in Camden East, Ontario, after falling in love with a property backing on to the Napanee River. Brian’s job in horticulture introduced him to many people; some of whom he stayed closely connected to until his passing. Brian was loyal, tenacious and hard working. He was a poet, a maker of music boxes that he gifted to many children, an advocate for accessibility, and an ardent believer in social justice. Despite the challenges Brian faced, he was full of life and optimism. His many friends will miss his hearty laugh and listening to his political points of view.
The family will receive friends at the Payne Funeral Home, 178 Main St., Odessa, Ontario K0H 2H0 (613-386-7373) on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 6 – 8 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 12 pm.
For those desiring, memorial donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada would be appreciated by the family. Please share your memories and condolences to the family at www.paynefuneralhome.com
